Bristol Sports Massage

Sports massage is a broad term given to the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia. It can be applied in pre or post event situations as well as incorporated into a training or rehabilitative programme. I incorporate sports massages with many of the other approaches I have learnt for maximum benefit and minimum discomfort.

Benefits of a Sports Massage

Other key areas of the treatment will include addressing muscle imbalances which may include self stretching and strengthening exercises. A Sports Massage may:

Maintain the body generally in better condition

Prevent injuries and loss of mobility / flexibility

Cure and restore mobility to injured muscle tissue

Boost sports performance

Extend the overall life of your sporting career

Assist in mental preparation for sporting participation

You do not need to be a sport performer or athlete to benefit from regular massages. The benefits above can also help relieve the many day to day problems, repetitive strain injury, sprains, tension, fatigue, that everyone experiences. I work with a great range of clients in assisting with preventive treatment and injury recovery and will tailor my treatment to suit you.

"I was trying for the ‘Tough Guy’ and I came in to see Ben at C1 for some sports massage therapy to help with my training. When I came to see him I had shin-splints, some foot pain and plantar fasciitis. After a few treatments these were resolved and I completed the Tough Guy with a personal best. For my next challenge I signed up for my first ever marathon, the Brighton marathon. I kept coming to see Ben during the training and I ran the race in under 4 hours. Without regular treatment I would never have broken the 4 hour barrier; never have run the race as quickly as I did and never have enjoyed it as much. So, what’s next?"

  • What is a deep tissue massage?
A deep tissue massage is a longer process of getting the muscles to relax so the massage therapist can get to the lower layer of connective tissue. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues.
  • Does a deep tissue massage help with lower back pain?
Back pain can have many different causes but if your back pain is muscular in origin then deep tissue massage can be effective in releasing tension, improve movement and reduce pain. In addition, I will suggest exercises after the session to get you back to health asap.
  • Is it okay to get a deep tissue massage regularly?
Are you someone who works out regularly but only occasionally, if at all, gets a massage? If so, you are doing your body, and your workouts, a disservice. Anyone who works out four or more times each week should really include a deep tissue massage every two weeks. If not, your muscles will be tight and your workouts will suffer.
  • What are the benefits of a Deep Tissue Massage?
Goals of Deep Tissue Massage: Reduce pain, Improve posture, Increase flexibility and perception of looseness, Improve fluidity of movement, Restore metabolic status of tissue.
