Sports injuries

PhotoYou may be a serious athlete, keen sportsperson or just someone who likes sport but massage can help all of you. Massage can help prevent injury, increase performance and aid in the recovery process.

Generally sports injuries are put into two categories. The first type of injury is a sudden injury called an acute injury. The second type of injury is one that has developed long term called chronic injury which results from overusing one or more parts of the body. Injuries if left untreated this will get worse over time leading to other more serious problems.

Massage can aid in the recovery process by massaging the injured area and use of mobilising techniques helping to restore normal range of movement. Sports injuries often occur when the muscle is taken beyond its normal range of function which causes damage to the ligament, muscle and joint capsule.

Massage can help prevent this by massaging muscles and assisted stretches increasing/maintaining the range of motion/flexibility for optimal performance. Regular massage can be essential as part of a training programme and allow you to enjoy what you do best.
